I. BTS's Narrative

: To plan an exhibition that best suits BTS, it's crucial to deeply understand their journey. Their legacy isn't simply a record of success; it's a grand narrative built on countless setbacks and testaments . Before delving into the specifics of the exhibition, let's delve into the brilliant yet intense times they've endured .

1. 2013, A Survival Story from the Cliff's Edge

- [2 cool 4 skool] [O!RU82?] [Skool LUV Affair] [Dark&Wild]

On June 13, 2013, BTS made their debut. While most idols receive the spotlight and perform on music shows upon releasing an album, these artists were denied even this opportunity. People later attributed this to the simple fact that the company was small. However, at the time, Big Hit Music was a fairly well-funded company , led by Bang Si-hyuk, the greatest composer of the time, and top producers in the industry . At least, that was the case before BTS, when a girl group they had painstakingly prepared for suffered a major flop.

The company's debt had already reached 15 billion won. When everyone was giving up and trying to gather their thoughts, producer Bang Si-hyuk put forth the miraculous logic that "Whether it's 15 billion won or 16 billion won in debt, it's all the same that you'll never be able to repay it." The team he launched into the world with that last straw was BTS . Their debut stage was miraculously realized due to the sudden absence of a popular idol. The stage was filled with fans of other singers who didn't know them, but the boys, desperate to capture the public's attention, poured out their full performance. Thanks to their desperation, they were able to secure even a brief interview opportunity—this is the tearful story of BTS's birth.

The painstaking efforts they demonstrated on their debut stage gradually began to gain recognition. The name BTS embodied a firm determination to "defeat the prejudice and oppression of teenagers and those in their twenties and proudly defend our values." They have always comforted their peers with their own stories. The reason their early albums primarily dealt with themes of school, love, and jealousy was because they were actually students at the time . The title track of their third album, "Boy in Luv," became a decisive moment for the group to establish their presence on the public stage, and their appearance at the international awards show KCON earned them recognition from experts for their potential in the overseas market. Finally, fueled by this growing popularity, they released their first full-length album, but unfortunately, the results were poor. The company faltered again, and the members endured a more difficult time than ever.

2. 2015, <花樣年華> Series: The most beautiful moments created by danger

- [Hwayangyeonhwa pt.1] → [Hwayangyeonhwa pt.2]

The card they pulled out at that impasse was "Hwayangyeonhwa ." This was also the moment when the "worldview" narrative that has become the current trend in K-pop truly began. Behind the title, which means "the most beautiful moment in life," BTS actually sang about the pain of youth. They unapologetically expressed the dangers and difficulties faced by those who have just graduated from school and become adults .

The public was deeply captivated by their vulnerable and honest confessions. The success of hit songs like "I NEED U," "RUN," "FIRE," and "Blood, Sweat & Tears" helped BTS blossom into a magnificent flower. From their first music show win to a successful solo concert, everything came true like a dream. The reason fans were so enthusiastic was because they felt vulnerable like them and closest to them . Because their story felt like their own, ARMYs poured their hearts out even more passionately. Therefore, it's perhaps only natural that fans yearn for that time, seeing BTS now, which seems so far away . It was the most beautiful time for all of us, when we could love each other more passionately because we were young.

3. 2017,

This was the beginning of their full-fledged global expansion. It was a time of radiant glory, with "DNA" topping the Billboard charts, "Fake Love" making a comeback, and becoming the first Korean singer to address the UN. However, despite their outward perfection, the members were internally suffering. Suga once confessed in an interview that he "tried to achieve moderate success like a normal idol and live as a songwriter," suggesting that the immense pressure of the United States was far beyond their expectations.

The exhaustion from running without a single proper vacation until 2017 suddenly exploded, and some fans even left, saying, "It seems like we're drifting apart ." Later, after receiving the Daesang award at the MAMA awards, Jin tearfully confessed, "Actually, it was so hard for all the members that we considered disbanding."

---

4. 2019,

The tearful confession at MAMA actually became a powerful force for the members to rise again. They soon returned to their fans (the small things) with "Boy With Luv ." This series, which aims to find the map of my soul They reach the sublime conclusion, "We are seven, we are BTS, and our souls are not distant; all of these aspects are me."

"Boy With Luv" wasn't just a box office hit. It was a symbolic event, showing the world that BTS had overcome adversity and risen again, and that they still hold onto what's precious. Through this narrative, we finally begin to complete the map of the vast soul that is BTS .

5. 2020 COVID

- [Dynamite] [BE] [Butter] [Permission to dance]

Finally, having completed their soul map and dreamed of another dazzling flight, they were faced with an unprecedented and enormous ordeal. The COVID-19 outbreak, which began in late 2019 and engulfed the world, cast a dark cloud over BTS's future. Their ambitiously planned world tour was canceled one after another, and the stage, which should have been filled with the cheers of fans, became a cold, frozen space. The sense of loss the members felt during that time, when daily life was paralyzed and they were physically unable to do anything, was indescribable.

But BTS never stopped. Instead of empty audiences, they reached out to fans beyond the screens. Using new methods like "room concerts" and "ontact performances," they began to connect the disconnected world and sing of a small light in a world deeply depressed. The song that was born was "Dynamite." The craze it unleashed was truly astonishing. They became the first Korean artist to reach number one on Billboard's main chart immediately after its release, garnering worldwide acclaim and popularity.

But what we should truly focus on isn't the flashy rankings. From "Life Goes On" on the album [BE] released afterward, to "Butter" and "Permission to Dance," every song delivered a desperate message of hope to all of us living in this isolated era . "Dynamite" and "Butter" aren't simply records proven by numbers . They were their most passionate cry to a world going through its darkest night, reminding us that life must go on and that we have the right to dance.

There's someone who's been watching them all. That's ARMY.

6. ARMY's narrative

1) Birth and Solidarity : When BTS debuted, instead of a red carpet, they faced a high wall of prejudice and indifference. Those who gathered under the name "ARMY" willingly stood before that wall, becoming a true "army" in the true sense of the word. They became shields to protect the seven boys from the world's ridicule, and began to introduce their music to the world through the voluntary promotion and solidarity of fans, not through the capital of a management company.

For early ARMYs, liking BTS wasn't simply about following a celebrity; it was a struggle to prove the potential of those outside the mainstream . Their unity stemmed not from grand strategies, but from compassion and trust for an artist who started from the lowest of times.

2) Empathy and Healing : As the "Hwayangyeonhwa" series progressed, ARMY's narrative became more intimate. When BTS began singing about the perils and pains of youth, fans recognized themselves in the songs. When the artist first revealed their vulnerabilities, fans finally found the courage to confront their own wounds, and this developed into a unique emotional bond between artist and fandom, where they healed each other .

ARMYs shed tears as if it were their own when BTS clinched their first music show win, and they stood by BTS's side when they struggled with the underperformance of their first full-length album. During this time, ARMYs weren't just "consumers ," but "comrades" who were navigating the tunnel of youth alongside BTS, "friends who shared their growing pains."

3) Proof and Extension

Over the course of the series, ARMY has become a global phenomenon. Transcending language, race, and borders, they have transformed into activists who put BTS's message of "love yourself" into practice. They have moved the Billboard charts through their voting, and through voluntary donations and social contribution activities, they have opened new horizons for "fandom culture." Facing the rigid barriers of the Western music industry, ARMY has become BTS's unwavering wings.

4) The essence beyond numbers

When dealing with BTS and ARMY, we must never be obsessed with mere figures like Billboard rankings or current trending keywords. Such data is merely a fraction, a surface level, of the vast emotional universe they have accumulated over the past decade. Between BTS and ARMY, flows a sentiment of "mutual salvation" that cannot be measured in numbers. To evaluate their narrative solely through numerical achievements or business outcomes is to miss the essence of their sincere heart. Therefore, we must be more cautious and understanding when dealing with ARMY and BTS. Their bond is stronger than data, and its roots run deeper than charts.

5) Promise and waiting

Even in the age of massive isolation brought on by COVID-19, ARMY's narrative never ceased. Even when concerts were canceled and daily life was paralyzed, ARMY lit up millions of ARMY Bombs on online stages, ensuring the boys never felt alone. Now, after a brief physical separation, ARMY's narrative is preparing for a new chapter. For ARMY, BTS is not a passing trend, but an eternal name that has captured the most beautiful moments of their lives together.
